Our 2024 Mod Christmas Decor (Holiday Home Tour)

2024 mod christmas decor blog post title

The holiday season is a time where we all make our homes just a little more magical, and this year I’m excited to share how I’ve decked the halls in my own historic 1956 mid-century modern ranch home. This year I’m blending classic vintage pieces and mod Christmas decor with a subdued and earthy color palette. Keep scrolling to see my 2024 Mid Century Christmas Home Tour.

Our (Mid Century) Mod Christmas Decor

This year I wanted to lean a little more neutral with our Christmas decor, while still keeping the mid century vibe of our home in mind. To do that, I went with a “natural” disco ball theme incorporating these disco ornaments throughout the greenery and on our vintage aluminum Christmas tree.

Keeping the color palette relatively neutral to let the disco ball ornaments shimmer through the cedar garland helps to keep the space feeling sophisticated despite the vintage “kitchy” Christmas decor - like our growing collection of ceramic Christmas trees.

My favorite part about our holiday decor this year is the way the morning light from our 12’ sliding doors bounces off the disco balls.

Our vintage aluminum Christmas tree was a lucky find we happened upon shortly after purchasing our home at one of our favorite vintage shops in Dallas - LulaB’s. It’s hard to find aluminum trees this large and in such good shape, it even came in the original box!

If you’re curious as to why we don’t have lights on the tree, that’s because these trees were literally made out of aluminum back in the day. While the aluminum needles makes them much more sparkly than the tinsel trees of today, it’s also a fire hazard to string traditional electric lights.

Luckily, thanks to the popularity of these trees recently, we were able to buy a reproduction color-wheel on Amazon to light up our tree.

Our mahogany paneled fireplace will always be the star of the show, so I love how the simple asymmetrical garland is an understated way to bring holiday cheer to our fireplace. It’s extra cozy curled up with blankets and a fire going.
