A Historic Craftsman Kitchen Remodel in Dallas
Craftsman-style homes are common in many neighborhoods in Dallas, unfortunately, many of these beautiful historic homes have been victim to poorly done “remuddles.” Traditional historic Craftsman kitchens are known for their unique charm as well as ample built-ins so our mission for this kitchen remodel was to bring that allure back to the home while meeting the practical needs of a growing family. Faced with a small and outdated kitchen, the new homeowners tasked us with expanding and transforming the space into a functional hub for family life while infusing historic charm back into the home after likely multiple bad renovations.
We reworked the layout by merging the kitchen with an way too oversized laundry room/pantry combo. This allowed us to expand the footprint without compromising the integrity of the likely original living and dining areas. Removing the pantry also allowed us to create a seamless wall of cabinets with an integrated panel-ready refrigerator, opening up the space and providing ample storage for food and kitchen appliances.
The new layout also allows for the addition of an eat-in island and workspace which further elevates the kitchen's functionality, catering to the family's contemporary lifestyle needs while acting as a hub for conversation and connection.
Behind the Design of this Historic Craftsman Kitchen…
The new design is a modern take on the classic craftsman kitchen with soft blue inset shaker cabinetry flanking both walls of the expanded kitchen - a feature that is both a nod to the homes’ history as well as a functional design element for a growing family. We chose two-tone black and white contrasting quartz countertops between the island and main workspace to add a pop of personality to the kitchen without detracting from the historic charm. Brass lighting and plumbing fixtures complement the era of the home while new hardwood floors extend into the kitchen to create a unified feel to the living spaces.
